Great news! Stephanie of Fireweed Farms, who grows at the Sandown Centre, will be offering a season long course this year. The program begins in March and meets weekly through the season for a total of 30 weeks. For more information or to register for the course, please contact Fireweed Farms directly at


Tuesday evenings from 5 to 7 pm, starting March 22 and running through to October 11. Just imagine the skills you will learn, the bounty you will grow, and the community connections you will create!

The season-long course will cover topics such as :​

  • garden bed preparation

  • garden planning: crop planning, crop successions, crop rotations 

  • getting to know the plant families

  • planting: techniques, timing

  • companion planting, spacing, seeding (DS vs TP)

  • getting to know your soil: soil types of soil, improving soil structure

  • pollinators!

  • from garden to kitchen: harvesting & preparing your bounty

  • the Whys of seasonal eating for a healthy local food system.
