  • Next time!

In partnership with Growing Young Farmers, we offer field trips at Sandown Centre for youth to get their hands dirty and learn about stewardship and regenerative growing on-site in our teaching garden.

Sandown Centre is on the traditional lands of the SENĆOŦEN speaking W̱SĺḴEM (Tseycum) peoples of the W̱SÁNEĆ First Nations at 1810 Glamorgan Road and consists of 83 acres of biodiversity that includes an incubator farm program, meadow, wetlands, and forest.

Growing Young Farmers Society (GYFS): Founded in 2011, is a non-profit charity that teaches K - 12 students about stewardship and regenerative growing and have been operating programs exclusively at Sandown Centre since 2024. During sessions, students will have the opportunity to get their hands dirty while learning what it means to steward the land and grow food responsibly.

Each class includes an introduction on biologically active soil and food literacy, followed by hands-on activities in the garden and a reflection and wrap-up. Activities will vary depending on the season and the age range of the students, but could include seeding, planting, harvesting, and mulching.

We hope you are as excited as we are to welcome students to Sandown Centre to learn about food literacy. Please fill out our booking form here, or reach out to Emily at info@sandowncentre.com with any questions you may have!

Until next time, stay tuned and thank you for your continued support!

The Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture is located on the traditional, unceded lands of the SENĆOŦEN speaking W̱S͸ḴEM (Tseycum) and BOḰEĆEN (Pauquachin) peoples of the W̱SÁNEĆ Nation. We acknowledge their deep, ongoing relationship with the land and waters since time immemorial.

Regenerative agriculture is deeply informed by the wisdom and practices of Indigenous food systems, which have fostered ecological balance and abundance. We recognize that agriculture has been both a tool of both oppression and a potential pathway toward justice and reconciliation.

We commit to meaningful action by stewarding ecosystems, honouring Indigenous knowledge, supporting food sovereignty, and fostering relationships built on respect, reciprocity, and learning. Regenerative agriculture must include the regeneration of right relationships—with the land, its original stewards, and one another.
