We’re excited to welcome Cece and Declan to the team at the Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture this season. We look forward to training these two aspiring new farmers on the Sandown Learning Farm as farm hands for the summer through the Canada Summer Jobs grant.

Cece is a fourth-year Geography and Environmental Studies student at the University of Victoria with a strong passion for community resilience, local food systems, and hands-on outdoor work. Her background includes ecological restoration volunteering with organizations such as the Surfrider Foundation, Peninsula Streams Society, and the UVic Restoration Club. Alongside her studies, Cece works at a local climbing gym where she teaches new climbers and has developed a love for education, teamwork, and continuous learning. She also enjoys gardening, painting, and organizing events within the local music community, and brings a thoughtful, community-focused energy to the farm.

Declan is a recent Geography and Environmental Studies graduate with experience in environmental education, community food systems, and ecological restoration. He currently works as an Outreach and Education Facilitator with RUSH (Resilient Urban Systems & Habitat), delivering workshops in schools across Greater Victoria focused on climate resilience, soil health, and ecological stewardship. Declan has also contributed to restoration projects locally and in Heiltsuk territory in Bella Bella, where he supported community garden and marine stewardship initiatives. With experience in public engagement, media production, and youth programming, he brings strong communication skills, creativity, and enthusiasm for regenerative agriculture and community-based learning.

Happy Spring and we look forward to seeing you soon!

The Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture is located on the traditional, unceded lands of the SENĆOŦEN speaking W̱S͸ḴEM (Tseycum) and BOḰEĆEN (Pauquachin) peoples of the W̱SÁNEĆ Nation. We acknowledge their deep, ongoing relationship with the land and waters since time immemorial.

Regenerative agriculture is deeply informed by the wisdom and practices of Indigenous food systems, which have fostered ecological balance and abundance. We recognize that agriculture has been both a tool of both oppression and a potential pathway toward justice and reconciliation.

We commit to meaningful action by stewarding ecosystems, honouring Indigenous knowledge, supporting food sovereignty, and fostering relationships built on respect, reciprocity, and learning. Regenerative agriculture must include the regeneration of right relationships—with the land, its original stewards, and one another.
