Community Garden space available!

Hello, Sandown community!

It has been a minute since we've touched base because we've been busy with our boots on the ground expanding the community gardens and starting up the Sandown Farm. We have many exciting updates and changes that will be announced soon.

In the meantime, here are ways you can get involved:

Community Gardens

We now have availability in our community gardens!

We have increased our community growing space to a total of 3/4 of an acre and added 128 3' x 10' in-ground beds in the process. Click the button below to review the policy document and sign up for a bed to get planting immediately! Did you know all our community garden beds include automated irrigation? Tell a friend or neighbour who is looking to grow their own food this season!

Volunteer

Starting this Monday, on May 26th, from 10am - 2pm, we will have volunteer Mondays on the farm! Gain experience working on a regenerative farm and be in community. When volunteering, you can expect to help out on the Sandown farm or with a farmer in our regenerative farmer (incubator) program. Tasks could include preparing beds for planting, seeding, harvesting, potting up, washing produce, moving wood chips, and more! Use the link below to sign up.

Thank you to the District of Sooke for the $1,000 community grant towards the Sandown Farm! This grant will be used towards operational costs for advancing local produce in Sooke schools by providing produce for Flourish! School Food Society.

The Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture is located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the SENĆOŦEN-speaking W̱S͸ḴEM (Tseycum) peoples of the W̱SÁNEĆ Nation. We acknowledge their deep, ongoing relationship with this land and waters, which has sustained their communities since time immemorial.

Regenerative agriculture is deeply informed by the wisdom and practices of Indigenous food systems, which have fostered ecological balance and abundance. Colonization violently disrupted these systems, displacing Indigenous peoples from their territories and severing traditional foodways. We recognize that agriculture has been both a tool of oppression and, today, a potential pathway toward justice and reconciliation.

At Sandown, we commit to meaningful action by restoring ecosystems, honoring Indigenous knowledge, supporting food sovereignty, and fostering relationships built on respect, reciprocity, and learning. True regenerative agriculture must include the regeneration of right relationships—with the land, its original stewards, and one another.
