We had a wonderful time with youth on the UVic Sustainability Project x Uvic Campus Garden x Community Action Bus Farm Crawl last month. It was inspiring to see so many young people interested in learning about sustainable farming practices and regenerative agriculture. Together, we learned about the principles of regenerative agriculture, toured the Sandown Learning Farm, and planted broccoli together. Thank you for including us on the Farm Crawl!

Shout out to all of the hard working women around the Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture! Did you know, of the 10 farms in our Regenerative Farmer Program, 7 are run by women?

We have noticed many young women interested in small-scale agriculture and are proud to be able to support them. Our Regenerative Farmer Program is an incubator model, that offers shared amenities, infrastructure, land, and mentorship for them to start their businesses in a low-risk environment.

This immersive program encourages curiosity, environmental stewardship, and a deeper connection to local food and nature through real-world, hands-on learning.

Sessions take place weekly on Tuesdays from 4:00PM - 5:30PM

Cohort 1: September 15 - October 6

Cohort 2: October 13 - November 3

The five-year project aims to reactivate underused agricultural lands for food production in the capital region.

The Sandown Centre for Regenerative Agriculture is located on the traditional, unceded lands of the SENĆOŦEN speaking W̱S͸ḴEM (Tseycum) and BOḰEĆEN (Pauquachin) peoples of the W̱SÁNEĆ Nation. We acknowledge their deep, ongoing relationship with the land and waters since time immemorial.

Regenerative agriculture is deeply informed by the wisdom and practices of Indigenous food systems, which have fostered ecological balance and abundance. We recognize that agriculture has been both a tool of both oppression and a potential pathway toward justice and reconciliation.

We commit to meaningful action by stewarding ecosystems, honouring Indigenous knowledge, supporting food sovereignty, and fostering relationships built on respect, reciprocity, and learning. Regenerative agriculture must include the regeneration of right relationships—with the land, its original stewards, and one another.
